Farmers, ranchers, and fishers need access to capital, especially those who have been historically denied equitable access to fair and affordable loans. Fewer and fewer banks lend to small business owners who depend on natural resources for their livelihoods. Their business models and risk profiles are fundamentally different from other businesses.

Often beginning farmers’ limited business history disqualifies them for business loans; and many farmers, especially immigrants, may not have personal networks that can help them to access affordable business loans. Too often farmers and fishers rely on credit cards or predatory lenders with no flexibility and high costs that can hinder their ability to grow.

With the National Notes, accredited investors* – often working with advisors focused on investing for social impact – can invest in our work. This offering is made possible under SEC Rule 506(c). With your support, we can grow our loan fund to serve more people, develop resilient businesses, and support healthy local food systems.
