California FarmLink | Privacy Policy
This privacy policy discloses the privacy practices for California FarmLink (“FarmLink”) and our websites including www.californiafarmlink.org and cafarmlink.force.com/landportal/s/login/. This privacy policy applies solely to information collected by these websites, except where stated otherwise. It will notify you of the following:
- What information we collect;
- With whom it is shared;
- How it can be corrected;
- How it is secured;
- How FarmLink’s website responds to “Do Not Track” options;
- How policy changes will be communicated; and
- How to address concerns over misuse of personal data.
Information Collection, Use, and Sharing
We are the sole owners of the information collected on this website. We only have access to information that you voluntarily give us through online forms, via email or other direct contact from you. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone.
We will use your information to respond to you, regarding the reason you contacted us. We will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization, other than as necessary to fulfill your request, e.g. allowing another FarmLink client (e.g. Landseekers, Landholders, or Retiring Farmers) to contact you through the tools provided on the Land Portal. When doing so, those other clients will not see your email address unless you reply to them via email.
Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email in the future to tell you about special projects, inquire about your progress or preferences in using our services, news and updates from FarmLink, or changes to this privacy policy.
Your Access to and Control Over Information
You may opt out of any future contacts from us at any time. You can do the following at any time by contacting us via the email address or phone number provided on our website:
- See what data we have about you, if any.
- Change/correct any data we have about you.
- Have us delete any data we have about you.
- Express any concern you have about our use of your data.
Registration
In order to use certain features on our websites referenced above, a user must first complete a registration form. During registration or the submission of a loan inquiry form, a user is required to give certain information (such as name and email address). This information is used to contact you about the products and services on our website in which you have expressed interest. At your option, you may also provide demographic information (such as gender or age) about yourself and/or your business. Your demographic information is voluntary, and may be used as part of aggregate data reports concerning the demographics of people we serve. In order to most effectively serve your business, any information you provide to FarmLink may be shared internally across the organization’s programs.
Orders
We request information from you on our donation, fee payment, and order forms. To contribute, make a fee payment, or buy from us, you must provide contact information (like name and address) and financial information (like credit card number, expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill your orders. If we have trouble processing an order, we’ll use this information to contact you.
Sharing
We share aggregated demographic information with our partners and funders. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.
Security
We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via our websites, your information is protected both online and offline. Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon on your web browser, or looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page.
While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (e.g. billing or client service) are granted access to personally identifiable information which includes your name, billing address, and phone number and does not include access to your credit card number, which is fully encrypted and stored by Stripe, our payment processor.
Cookies
We use “cookies” on this site. A cookie is a piece of data stored on a site visitor’s hard drive to help us improve your access to our site and identify repeat visitors to our site. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance their experience on our site. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information on our site.
Links
The websites referenced above contain links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.
Surveys & Contests
From time-to-time our websites request information via surveys or contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is voluntary and you may choose whether or not to participate and therefore disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code, age level). Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of these websites and FarmLink’s programs.
Do Not Track
Currently, various browsers — including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari — offer a “do not track” or “DNT” option that relies on a technology known as a DNT header, which sends a signal to websites visited by the user about the user’s browser DNT preference setting. California FarmLink does not currently commit to responding to browsers’ DNT signals with respect to its websites, in part, because no common industry standard for DNT has been adopted by industry groups, technology companies or regulators, including no consistent standard of interpreting user intent. California FarmLink takes privacy and meaningful choice seriously and will make efforts to continue to monitor developments around DNT browser technology and the implementation of a standard.
Lack of Security in Email Exchanges
Because of rapidly changing technology and the insecure nature of email, confidentiality cannot be assured in any email exchange.
Limits of Security on the Internet
We employ different security techniques to protect your personally identifiable information from unauthorized access by users inside and outside of FarmLink, including standard encryption practices. You should be aware, however, that “perfect security” does not exist on the Internet.
Although we believe we take appropriate measures to safeguard against unauthorized disclosures of information, we cannot assure you that your personally identifiable information or your email communications with California FarmLink will never be disclosed in a manner inconsistent with this policy, and we make no representations or warranties regarding the sufficiency of our security measures.
Always be careful and responsible regarding your personally identifiable information. We are not responsible for, and cannot control, the use by others of any information that you provide or divulge to others, purposefully or inadvertently, including your email address and password to use certain features of our websites. For more information from the U.S. government on how to keep your computer safe, please go to http://www.onguardonline.gov/
Notification of Changes
Whenever material changes are made to the privacy policy, FarmLink will send an email to all current users of our sites.
